Manual Theme Installation on site with existing LCS Prestashop themes

You will need to follow instruction in this documentation if you have already installed one of our themes on your website before and you now wish to install another theme also from our website.

Understanding the Problem

We have a number of modules designed and customized for our themes. Some of these modules are used in more than one theme. Example of these modules include lcsblocksocial, lcsblocknewproducts, lcsmanufacturers, lcsextraheader, etc.

Sometimes there are some modifications in each of these modules for the different themes so the lcsblocksocial in LCS Gamestore may be different from the one packaged with LCS Gamestore-2. Most of the times, the difference has to do with the appearance of the module on the frontend. The Prestashop theme installer would not automatically update these modules because they are the same version even though their appeances have been modified. Here is an instruction on how to resolve this.

How to Install New LCS Themes on Shop with Existing LCS Themes

1Unzip the package of the LCS theme you want to install and check the modules folder inside. Identify the modules inside the package that are already in the modules folder of your main Prestashop installation.

2Go to the backend of your Prestashop installation and select Prestashop default theme as your Shop theme.

3Go to the module section at your backend, uninstall and delete all the modules that you have previously identified in number 1 step. Before you delete them, you may wish to save copies of them as backup should in case you need them again.

4After you have done all these, you can then perform an automatic installation of the new theme you want to install using Prestashop theme installer.

5If you missed any module in step 3, you would know because the module would not appear like the one in our demo after you complete the new installation and might also be in the wrong module position. What you need to do in this case is to repear step 3 just for that module, and then copy the new copy from the new LCS theme to replace the one just deleted. You can then go to the backend of your shop and hook the module to the right position as shown in the new LCS theme demo. Then proceed with other instructions for module configuration.

If you are not sure of the right position, contact our Support to get a copy of the module position screenshot for the theme you installed.

Some modules however might not be visible because you have to configure them first in other to make them visible. Below are the modules that would act like this and that you have to configure. Following the list are instructions for getting the same display as the theme's demo:

  • Minic Slider
  • HTML Box

Setup the Minic Slider

This is a third-party module developed by Minic Studio. The slider is responsible for the sliding images on the front end of the LCS Gamestore 2 theme. To get the module to display on the frontend, simply go to the backend and configure the module by adding your own images.

Tips for adding Minic Slider

  • For best result, use large images. We recommend you use images that are at least 1600 pixel wide and less than 250kb in size.
  • It is best not to add many slides because of the sizes of the images. The heavier the images, the slower the slider would load images when you go to your homepage
  • If you wish, you can check the upload folder inside the minicslider module located in yoursite/modules/minicslider for the images we used on the demo. You can then add them to the slider yourself.
  • You also do not need to link the demo images with any product and just use them for design purpose. To achieve, make sure you enable the option “blank target” when configuring the slide’s url at the backend.

Setup the HTML Box

This is a third-party module developed by MyPresta.eu and enables you to add raw HTML/JavaScript/CSS codes to a block on your shop. On this occasion, we would use it to add embedded video from YouTube to the module. The module has been modified specifically for this purpose.

Setup

  • Look for the HTMLbox [Edited for LCS Gamestore2] and click configure to set up the module.

    HTML Box Configure

  • Using the attached picture, add information into the different fields. Please note the maximum numbers of characters that can be added. This was done in order to make sure that a lengthy title or description does not distort the module appearance.

    HTML Box Setup

  • To add embedded video, go to YouTube and copy the embedded iframe code of the video you want to add and paste it in the section titled “Enter the HTML/js/css code here”. In the demo example, we used the code below:
    <iframe width="520" height="293" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/o15zAfpnsa4?autoplay=0&autohide=1&showinfo=0&controls=0&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  • We recommend you use a width of 520px for the video size. To do this, use custom size on YouTube. See image below.

    Google custom code

  • You can add a video or even a playlist if you have one for a group of movies and games on your store. For a detail guide, read this YouTube documentation titled Embed videos and playlists.

Tips

  • In our demo, we created a play-list but only embedded one of the videos on the playlist. We then added the url to the full playlist on YouTube as our Module URL.
  • You can use the module to preview a trailer for a product on your shop. Make sure you add the link to the product page as Module URL.
  • You can change the “See More Video” button text using the Prestashop module translator in your shop’s back office.

When adding the embedded code, make sure that the editor remains turned off.

Adding Rating Stars to the Homefeatured and LCS New Products Blocks

You would notice that the “rating stars” have been added to the homefeatured and lcsnewproducts blocks on the homepage. We made some changes to some files inside the productcomments module folder to achieve this. For you to get the rating stars to appear on your shop just like in the demo, there are two things that must be done.

  • Replace the productcomments.php file inside yoursite/modules/productcomments folder with the modified one and add a new file titled homefeatured-rating.tpl into the same folder.
  • Make sure that the productcomments module is installed and enabled in the backoffice.

Download the file - productcomments-1.5theme.zip - from the Prestashop Template Addon folder in the Download section, unzip it and inside are two files:

  1. Productcomments.php: Use this to replace the current file. We recommend that you save the current file with another file name as backup (e.g. productcomments-old.php)
  2. Homefeatured-rating.tpl: Copy this file into the productcomments module root folder. This file does not currently exist.

  1. Unzip the file on your computer. There are three folders in the main folder namely - themes, modules and documentation.
